Book Review: Why Should Extroverts Make All the Money? Networking Made Easy for the Introvert
By Frederica J. Balzano, Ph.D
Networking can be both very intimidating and overwhelming, especially for an introvert or shy person. Frederica J. Balzano wrote and designed Why Should Extroverts Make All the Money? Networking Made Easy for the Introvert to help assess introverts how to step out of their shadow and network. She discusses characteristics between an extrovert and introvert, shares networking exercises and how to manage and communicate introverts in the workplace.
Take this short quiz taken from Dr. Balzano’s book to assess if you fit the profile as an introvert.
Answer Yes, Often or No
• In the office or other work environment, do you think you are perceived as being aloof by your coworkers?
• In a large group, do you dislike introducing people to each other?
• Are you uncomfortable “working the crowd” at a party?
• Do you feel that your so-called shyness is standing in the way of career advancement?
• Do you want to participate in the meetings but are not sure how to start?
• Do you have to write notes before a presentation even if you don’t refer to them, because you know you don’t like to “wing” it?
• Does the word networking send chills up your spine?
• Is rejection so distasteful to you that it prevents you from effectively managing or networking?
Now tally up your answers: if you responded “yes” or “often” to more than four of these questions, you have a strong tendency toward introversion. If you answered at least seven questions yes, you probably are an introvert. It is your preferred way of relating to people, places and things. It’s a style- a comfort level-not to be confused with shyness.
