Recently, I was walking through my building's lobby when I overheard a phone conversation. Joe was talking to Jane about Sam. Sam was described as quiet; he came in on time and did his job. The phrase "he did his job" was used several times.
I'm not sure I want to be described that way. “Collaborative, inventive, productive”… would be much better.
I want to do more than just my job. I want to push the boundaries of my job with new ideas and new projects. That is what has kept me excited about the UIAA for over 14 years.
Maybe at that company the statement "he did his job" is a compliment. Maybe Joe was in shock over Sam being downsized.
How do you want to be described? What are you doing to make sure that the description you want is one that others have of you?
