If I told you that the secret to a successful job search was sending out as many applications as possible, hopefully you would see the April Fool's joke in that statement.
A job search is a numbers game, but it is not JUST a numbers game. You need to get applications out, approach networking contacts and face rejection several times before you get to the new job. If you are not applying and networking, you will have to be extremely lucky to land a job.
So numbers are important, but networking with the right people and targeting your networking approach and applications is key. This will effectively source new opportunities, turn applications into contacts, contacts into interviews and interviews into offers.
So work the numbers, but work smart.
