On April 18, more than 200 University of Illinois alumni, students, faculty and staff attended U of I Day at the Capitol, an annual event organized by the UIAA’s Illinois Connection program. Representing 142 political districts, the group met with state legislators on behalf of the University to advocate for funding and Monetary Assistance Program grants. Gymnastics team wins NCAA Championship
With a season-high score of 358.850, the Fighting Illini men’s gymnastics squad rallied from a two-point deficit in the final two rotations to win the 2012 NCAA Championship at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla. The victory marks the 10th title in program history and the first since 1989. “This moment has been a long time coming,” said head coach Justin Spring.
