George Huff Awards

The University of Illinois Alumni Association is proud to recognize the George Huff Award recipients. Since 1953, the University of Illinois Alumni Association has honored Fighting Illini scholar-athletes with the George Huff Awards, named for the legendary Illinois coach.This award is presented to student-athletes who have won a varsity letter and maintained a scholastic grade-point average of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) in two consecutive semesters between the spring semester of one year and the spring semester of the next year.

George Huff, the University’s athletic director from 1901-1936, made monumental contributions by hiring stellar coaches such as Bob Zuppke and Harry Gill, and building phenomenal facilities, including Memorial Stadium and Huff Gymnasium. The long-standing tradition of the George Huff Awards honors outstanding achievement in both academics and athletics.
