The Old Ball Game

The Old Ball Game

Over the weekend of May 14-16, the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics hosted a reunion celebrating 130 years of baseball at Illinois – the oldest continuing team sport at the University of Illinois. In the front row are, from left, the long-time coaches Itch Jones, Lee Eilbracht ’47 LAS, and Tom Dedin. Behind them stand three members of the 1964-66 team: from left, Bill Schlueter ’66 AHS (catcher); Dave Crouse ’66 MEDIA, MS ’70 MEDIA (center field); and Paul Koch (second base) ’66 ENG, MS ’68 ENG. Taken at Saturday reunion festivities, which preceded an Illinois shutout of Purdue, 7-0, the photo was snapped by Schleuter and submitted by Koch, the latter joking that, “No, I was not a member of the first team – freshman weren't eligible until much later.”
