Those "Gold Star Illini" are those alumni who answered their nation's call and gave their lives as the ultimate sacrifice. The listing here includes all known Illini killed while serving in the Armed Forces in official recognized wars and conflicts for which a campaign medal or battle streamer has been authorized.
