Captain Everett was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was commanding officer of Company C, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action by an antitank mine while leading a reconnaissance party across the Han River near Yangjae fighting the enemy about 5 miles east of Seoul, South Korea. He entered the Enlisted Reserve Corps in 1942, went into active duty in June, 1943, after finishing his junior year at the University of Illinois. He was commissioned in the Field Artillery Reserve in 1944 and entered active duty. He served in Patton's army in Normandy and Germany in 1945-46, in occupation forces in Linz, Salzburg and Vienna in 1946-48, and in Japan and Korea in 1950-51. For his leadership and valor, Captain Everett was awarded the Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Purple Heart with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Combat Infantryman's Badge with Silver Star, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the French Croix de Guerre.
