Graduate Student Hourly Position for Chicago Office
The Graduate Student Hourly Position is an annually renewable position that
provides an opportunity for a graduate student to gain insight into alumni relations
office management and experience in the areas of alumni relations, alumni programs
and event planning.
Position Description
The Graduate Hourly position is part time (fifty percent appointment,
20 hours a week) located in the University of Illinois Alumni Association’s
Chicago office. This is an hourly position and tuition is not reimbursed. The
individual will assist with recurring activities and take responsibility for
the planning, execution, evaluation and review of some of these programs or major
elements of them. The individual will also learn about the overall management
of an alumni relations operation career. The position will be supervised by the
senior associate director.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the participant selection and overall operation of Lighting of
the Flame ceremony. This includes selection process, communication with the Torch
Bearers and guests, and the set-up and management of the entire onsite program.
There are approximately 15 home basketball games each year.
- Responsible for facilitating logistics and all arrangements for the presentation
of the WOW Award program. The WOW Award is given to multiple people on campus
once a month. The Graduate Hourly will coordinate the award presentation after
the selection is made by a committee.
- Assist with College Alumni Boards management under the direction of the senior
associate director. This may include, but is not limited to, representing the
UIAA, helping prepare for meetings or programs and securing support throughout
the year.
- Work with Student Leadership and Activities Honorary Society award programs.
Assist the associate director of student initiatives with solicitation of and
recording of nominations, sending award notifications, processing reservations
and coordinating event logistics.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program at UIC
- Sincere interest in the alumni relations field as a career
- Strong desire to positively represent the Alumni Association and UIC
- Advanced organizational skills
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills
- Willingness to work some weekends and evening hours
- Ability to work independently as well as accept, and occasionally provide,
supervision
