An Afternoon in Chinatown—Lunch and Tours!

Join us for a fascinating cultural experience in Chicago’s Chinatown! The LAS Alumni Association invites you to a private event at the popular MingHin Restaurant, where you will enjoy a traditional Chinese meal, learn about Chinese culture and philosophies from Illinois professors, and explore Chinatown and all its offerings.

At MingHin, you will enjoy a delicious and abundant traditional lunch served Chinese family-style. You’ll be inspired by Professors Chilin Shih and Jeffery Martin of the Dept. of East Asian Languages and Cultures, who will present Harmony from Discord:  Ancient Chinese Philosophies with a Modern View. Professors Shih and Martin, joined by their students, will demonstrate how ancient Chinese philosophies, martial arts, and cultures in the modern world can evolve discord into harmony.

Following the lunch event, join fellow alumni on one or both guided tours.

* Chinatown Walking Tour—This guided one-hour tour explores Chinatown’s greatest treasures, providing rich cultural and historical information at each landmark. This tour will be divided into groups and can accommodate up to 75 guests.
*Chinese Medicine Tour—This guided one-hour tour will introduce guests to Chinese medicinal herbs and foods that support health and wellness. Two sessions are offered with a limit of 20 people per session.

Both tours are optional, require an additional fee and are first come, first serve.

Lunch Event, Noon-2 p.m.: $30 per person
Chinatown Walking Tour, 2-3 p.m.: $5 per person
