Professor Lisa Mercer will present her research titled Operation Compass and Racism Untaught, as well as the work her students have produced in her courses. Professor Mercer will also discuss how her work with Racism Untaught – a toolkit focused on cultivating learning environments for people to further explore issues of race and racism, from the obvious to the invisible – has been applied in academia and industry with Target, Spotify, PayPal and Apple. Operation Compass, an ethnographic research study concerned with developing design-led interventions to combat human trafficking, led to the creation of an app which allows users to anonymously report suspected cases of human trafficking.
