This 13-day program takes us throughout Germany, visiting renowned cities and charming smaller locales. We begin with a three-night stay Munich where we see famous sites such as Marienplatz, the Glockenspiel and Nymphenburg Palace, as well as the somber Dachau Memorial Site. We also enjoy an excursion to the Bavarian Alps to visit the fairy-tale castle of Neuschwanstein. Leaving Munich, we head north along the famed Romantic Road, spending one night in the tiny walled town of Nordlingen. Our journey along this route built by the Romans also includes visits to the charming historic villages of Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber and Dinkelsbuehl. Our next stop is Nuremburg, where we will see the Nuremburg Trial Courthouse and the Nazi Rally Grounds during our two-night stay. We continue to Dresden for two nights, during which we will visit the beautiful Old Town, fully reconstructed after WWII bombing, and the Historic Green Vault, home of the crown jewels. We then travel to Meissen, “the cradle of Saxony”, to learn about porcelain manufacturing, and to Wittenberg, the home of Martin Luther, before concluding our journey with a three-night stay in Berlin. In Berlin we visit the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, and the Neues Museum. Lastly, we include a half-day excursion to Potsdam to see Frederick the Great’s beautiful Sanssouci Palace. Guests have the opportunity to extend their stay with two additional nights on their own in Berlin.
