Pfc. Brisendine served with the 262nd Infantry Regiment, 66th Infantry Division. He was lost when the Belgian transport ship Leopoldville was sunk by enemy action in the English Channel off the island of Guernsey. Private Brisendine trained first in the Air Corps (now the Air force), then was transferred to the Infantry. He is listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea on the Tablets of the Missing at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
