Illinois fans were hungry for postseason football heading into the 1999 season. That fall ended up marking the first Illini appearance in a bowl game in five years, as running back Rocky Harvey and his gridiron teammates turned in a memorable season capped by a romp over Virginia in the MicronPC.com Bowl. Illinois went 8–4, including upset road wins over Ohio State and a Michigan team led by Tom Brady. Harvey ran for 774 yards and seven touchdowns that fall en route to becoming one of Illinois’ top-five all-time leading rushers with 2,711 yards.
