Lt. Gray served with the 398th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division. He was killed in action as his unit crossed the La Plaine River, France. He is buried at Epinal American Cemetery, Epinal, France, Plot B Row 29 Grave 37. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
