Lt. DeCleene served with the 603rd Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomber Group, Heavy. After a bombing mission over western Germany, his plane crashed after reaching England. He is buried at the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, England, Plot C Row 4 Grave 28. Lt. DeCleene was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters.
