Captain Hoffman served with the 21st Bomber Squadron, 28th Bomber Group, Heavy. He was a Liberator pilot based in Alaska, missing in action over Paramushira Island in the Kurile Islands of Japan. He entered flight training March, 1941, and was flying missions over Japanese held Kiska at the time of his death. He is listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea on the Tablets of the Missing at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart. He has a memorial grave stone at Rose Hill Cemetery, Texarkana, Texas.
