Private Clawson enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve on April 24, 1942. He received basic training at San Diego and served with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Marine Regiment, 6th Marine Division, 5th Amphibious Corps. He was shipped to the Southwest Pacific area in July, 1942. He died from wounds received in the capture of the Marshall Islands.
