Captain Solomon served with the 608th Medical Collecting Company, Tenth U.S. Army. He was honored posthumously September, 1946, when the Legion of Merit, the 4th highest Army award, was presented to his parents in a ceremony at Northwestern University. Captain Solomon earned the award by his singular devotion to duty in giving medical aid to men stricken with typhus in New Guinea while he himself was ill. He is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery, Evanston, Illinois.
