Lt. McDavid entered the First Officers’ Training Camp at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. After receiving his commission he was sent to Texas for a short time before sailing overseas. After arriving in Great Britain Lt. McDavid was assigned to the air service at Orley Field, then transferred to Paris as Inspector of Planes. He died in an accident at Buc Field, France, while taking the place of a sick comrade. He served with the 117th Aero Squadron. He is buried at Suresnes American Cemetery, Suresnes, France, Plot B Row 4 Grave 16.
