AOM2-c Broleen served with the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was killed in action on January 4, 1945, while serving on the USS Ommaney Bay, as Escort Carrier. The carrier was attacked and destroyed by a Japanese suicide plane. Ninety-five Navy men were lost. Ordnanceman Broleen is listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea on the Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery, Manila, Philippines. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
