Lt. Brenner served with the 506th Bomber Squadron, 44th Bomber Group, Heavy. He is listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea on the Tablets of the Missing at Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. He was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart. This was the 506th Squadron’s first mission and this crew’s first mission. During the mission, their plane received damage from enemy aircraft, caught fire and headed toward the Island of Baltrum in the East Frisian group off the coast of Germany in the North Sea. Eye witnesses reported seeing 5 chutes from the aircraft, but no survivors were located. After World War II, the isolated grave of Lt. Brenner was found hear Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
