Lt. Dickhut was inducted on October 7, 1941, in Chicago. He was assigned to Ordnance in the Army. He was killed in a Burlington railroad crash at Naperville, Illinois. He was in service 4 1/2 years, 2 of them in England. Lt. Dickhut was on terminal leave and had been studying at his home for the CPA exam. He had planned to be married in June and rejoin his former employer. Lt. Duckhut is buried at Woodland Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois.
