Lt. Col. Weissman was a former assistant medical superintendent of Cook County Hospital. He was called by the president of the county board, “One of the greatest doctors the county ever had.” He was killed over Germany in the crash of an airplane in which he was returning from Stockholm, Sweden, to London. He had flown to Sweden in his capacity as chief of all hospital inspections of the U.S. Surgeon’s Office in London. He was the brother of Louis Dennen Weissman, also listed in this Veterans’ Memorial Web site.
