Captain Manspeaker served with the engineering officers’ reserve corps. He had been commissioned December 27, 1917. He was the first graduate of the College of Engineering to die in World War I and the 8th Illinois soldier to die in the war. Captain Manspeaker had been stationed at Camp Lee, Petersburg, Virginia, and died there of pneumonia.
