Lt. Bidwell served with the 526th Bomber Squadron, 379th Bomber Group, Heavy. He was reported missing in action over Le Bourget, the French flying field near Paris, France. He is buried at Epinal American Cemetery, Epinal, France. He earned the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for five combat missions and Purple Heart.
