Captain Wallace was among 58 persons killed in a crash of a C-130 transport in the bay at Hong Kong. The plane was carrying U.S. Marines back to Vietnam at the completion of a rest leave. Thirteen men survived. Since he had been stationed at Da Nang Air Base in Vietnam, Captain Wallace had flown more than 80 F-4c Phantam jet missions.
