Lt. Goodfellow left the University of Illinois to enter the First Officers’ Training Camp at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He was held over for the Second Camp and assigned to the 18th Company. Upon receiving his commission he was ordered overseas, sailing in January, 1918, as a casual officer. Upon arrival in France he underwent further military training in the Infantry Specialists’ School at Langres, and was then assigned to Company L, 23rd Infantry, Second Division, Chateau-Thierry, France. He was killed in action by shell fire near Chateau-Thierry.
