Private Ehleb was honored at his memorial service on April 22, 1945, with the following as taken from the Tribute of Honor notes provided at the funeral: “On the night of March 3, 1945, William was with his company commander giving medical assistance to wounded men. The building in which they were operating was hit by an enemy shell.” William died three days later on March 6, 1945. Mr. Ehleb is buried in Memorial Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois, next to his parents, Albert and Rhoda Ehleb.
