Lt. Lake served with the 714th Bomber Squadron, 448th Bomber Group, Heavy. He was a B-24 navigator when killed in action over Germany, a veteran of 25 missions. Reported missing once before when his plane was forced down, Lt. Lake had been able to reach allied lines. He is listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea on the Tablets of the Missing at Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. Lt. Lake received the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and Purple Heart.
