Lt. Wendt served with the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was Missing in Action in Guam on July 21, 1944, and was declared dead on July 22, 1945. He is listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea on the Tablets of the Missing at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart. Since the original posting of this veteran, evidence has surfaced that Lt. Wendt has a grave marker at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC; and that his date of death has been assigned as July 21, 1944.
