Lt. Baker served with the 447th Bomber Squadron, 321st Bomber Group, Medium. He died in Italy when his plane was shot down during a mission. He is buried at Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy, Plot E Row 3 Grave 11. He earned the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and Purple Heart.
