Staff Sergeant Bulger was a 1939 Proviso (IL) Township High School graduate. He served with the 376th Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division. His engagements included fighting at Lorient and St. Nazaire, France; was wounded on 9/3/1944; and fought at Tettingen and Butzdorf, Germany. Twice a hero, Sergeant Bulger was awarded the Silver Star for carrying a wounded comrade to safety plus the Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal. He was killed in action during an attack on Munzingen Ridge near Sinz, Germany, by a mortar shell when he left the safety of his foxhole to assist another wounded buddy. He is buried at Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, Illinois, Section K Lot 57 Grave 9.
