The Big Picture: University of Illinois Arboretum
The University of Illinois Arboretum boasts 160 acres of gardens, collections and habitats, and serves as a living laboratory for students of both plant sciences and fine and applied arts. It also offers an oasis of natural beauty for the public. Among its popular destinations is the Dr. Frank W. Kari Walkway—named for late alumnus Frank Kari, ’74 LAS, MS ’77 ACES, PHD ’81 ACES, who is remembered for his unique ability to analyze and interpret scientific data. The walkway features plants that are native to Illinois and encircles the ponds, which are home to wildlife and wetland communities.
