Give the people what they want.
It’s a time-honored axiom of marketing, and one that holds true for the University of Illinois Alumni Association and its membership program. In addition to the UIAA’s current $150-per-year annual membership, it now offers Life Membership for a one-time fee of $1,500. “We keep our finger on the pulse of what our alumni want and need,” says Jackie Koch, UIAA assistant director of membership. “Time and again, we heard from our alumni that they want access to a lifetime of association with fellow Illini and to UIAA benefits.”
Today, membership in the UIAA has become even more vital as the organization continues to grow and expand its offerings, which includes the reinstituted Life Membership. “The UIAA offers a rich assortment of resources and services,” says UIAA President David Bambrey, citing IlliniLink, a virtual network of more than 10,000 alumni; the Alumni Book Club; and an online Speakers Series.
Perks include discounts and access to U. of I. Athletics events; Krannert Center for the Performing Arts events; programming at Allerton Park & Retreat Center; U. of I. swag from the Illini Union Bookstore; stays at the I Hotel; and career counseling and programming by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
“UIAA membership is always evolving,” Koch says. “We even provide opportunities to purchase gift UIAA memberships for friends and family.”
