I’s on the World: Air Iceland

Oh, the places we go … University of Illinois alumni are globetrotters who travel near and far, but never forget their Alma Mater!

Oh, the places we go … University of Illinois alumni are globetrotters who travel near and far, but never forget their Alma Mater!

As the pandemic eased, Helen Laka Boen, ’77 BUS, set her sights on Iceland. “I went with a Women Over 60 Travel Group,” she says. “Our reason for choosing Iceland was to get pictures of the Northern Lights, but we ended up experiencing so much more!” That “more” included stops in Reykjavík and Akureyri.

Boen’s wanderlust began at Illinois. “For graduation, 40 of us rewarded ourselves with a six-week trip to 13 countries,” she says. When her son, Andrew Boen, ’14 ENG, and daughter-in-law gifted her with a Storyworthy book project, Helen made sure to include that 1977 celebration as an important chapter in her life story.
