Trip Itinerary:

Day 1 Miami, Florida / Havana, Cuba

Fly to Havana, Cuba, and meet your AHI Travel representative to transfer to the Paseo 206, an independently owned boutique hotel in the beautiful Miramar neighborhood. Tonight, join your fellow travelers for a festive Welcome Dinner at a privately owned and operated local restaurant. Enjoy meeting Cuban people on your first night in Cuba!

Day 2 Havana

Start the morning with an insightful lecture about Havana's architecture. Then, discover the effervescence of Habana Viejo on a guided walk. See the four historic main squares and stop at a local market to browse and haggle with Cuban vendors. Next, enjoy an informative talk with women business owners at an independently owned clothing store. Finish the afternoon with a tour of the historic Hotel Nacional de Cuba, circa 1930. Later, join a "local insight" discussion on the Cuban economy.

Day 3 Havana

After breakfast, join Norma Guillard, a Cuban social psychologist and adjunct lecturer at the University of Havana, who shares stories about her work with the 1961 Cuban Literacy Campaign. Then, join an expert for a guided visit to Havana’s National Museum of Fine Arts, featuring work by Cuban artists and impressionists. Next, experience the romance of Cuba during a fun ride in a vintage American convertible along Havana’s evocative Malecón sea drive. Later, learn about the importance of health care in Cuba.

Day 4 Havana

Enjoy an enlightening talk about the role of women in Cuba. Then, visit the Ashkenazi Community Center to gain insight into Cuban Jewish culture; and Malpaso, a contemporary art studio, to watch dancers rehearse and learn about their aspirations. Head outside Havana to see La Finca Vigia, Ernest Hemingway's home and museum. Later today, gather on the terrace of the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba, a nonprofit cultural institution, to meet independent local artists and learn about their determination to pursue artistic ventures.

Day 5 Matanzas | Havana

Take a panoramic drive to Matanzas to uncover this timeworn city's cultural riches. Pass by the renowned Sauto Theatre and the historic French Quarter. Stop in the city center to enjoy lunch and a small chamber orchestra performance. Then, take a guided walk through colonial-era streets and La Libertad Park, and visit an authentic 19th-century French-style pharmacy. Continue to the Remains of Sugar Mill Triunvirato, and the location of the 1843 slave rebellion, to visit the museum and witness the moving Monument to the Slave Rebellion.

Day 6 Havana

After a thought-provoking discussion about Race and the Cuban Revolution, venture out to visit an authentic, bustling Cuban street market to haggle with vendors and experience daily Cuban life. Then, visit a Cuban cultural center to meet and engage with the teachers and students who are dedicated to preserving Cuba's art and heritage. Later, back at the hotel, local dancers will share their passion by teaching you how to tango and salsa. You may even try a few steps yourself!

Day 7 Rural Cuba | Havana

Take a scenic drive through rural Cuba's rich farmland, blanketed with sugarcane and tobacco fields, to visit Las Terrazas, a model socialist community. Engage with residents and learn about their sustainable development and conservation efforts. Visit a local school, stop at an artist’s studio and have coffee at a local café, followed by a lunch of locally grown, organic vegetables. Later, back in Havana, an ethnomusicologist shares insights into Cuba’s enthralling music scene, followed by a Farewell Dinner.

Day 8 Depart for Miami, Florida / Return to gateway city

Bid farewell to enigmatic Cuba and head to the airport for your flights back to Miami and connection to your gateway city and home.
