Mr. Hesse served with the medical unit, 13th Engineers. He enlisted April 15, 1918, and entered training at Fort Sheridan. He sailed for France on July 12 but died of pneumonia in France. Mr. Hesse is buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.
