Sgt. Kaneen served with the 17th Pursuit Squadron, 24th Pursuit Group. He died while a Prisoner of War at Cabanatuan POW Camp, Philippine Islands, due to dysentery. He took part in the Bataan Death March and was held at Camp O’Donnell as a POW before Cabanatuan. He is listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea on the Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery, Manila, Philippines.
