Lt. Cole served with the 335th Bomber Squadron, 95th Bomber Group, Heavy. He was killed in action during a mission over Brunswick, Germany. Lt. Cole is buried at Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, Belgium, Plot B Row 23 Grave 17. He was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and Purple Heart.
