Seaman Bulawa was a US Merchant Marine. It appears he was lost at sea as a member of the crew of the Esso Gettysburg, a turbine tanker. The ship was sunk by a U-boat. He is buried at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois, Section MA Site 38.
