Lt. McCaskey entered the Second Officers’ Training Camp at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, 21st Company. He received his first lieutenant commission and was ordered overseas, sailing in January, 1918. After further military training and instruction work in A.E.F. schools, he was assigned to Company L for three months and Company K for one month of the 120th Infantry. He was promoted to Captain and was in command of Companies L and K, 120th Infantry, on the battle line for 4 1/2 months at Mt. Kemmel, Canal du Nord, Belicourt, Cambrai and St. Quentin. Captain McCaskey was killed in action near Bohain, France. He was twice cited in orders for bravery. He is buried at Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France, Plot D Row 1 Grave 4.
