Lt. Howard served with the 499th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, Medium. He was part of a B-25 crew; his unit was known as the “Air Apaches.” He died during the invasion of Luzon, Philippine Islands. He is buried at Plot D Row 12 Grave 95 at the Manila American Cemetery, Manila, Philippines
