Lt. Keating served with the 92nd Coast Artillery Regiment, Philippine Scouts. He was boarded onto the Oryoku Maru, a Japanese Hell Ship, and sailed for Formosa. In Subic Bay, Philippine Islands, the ship was attacked by American fighter planes. The Japanese abandoned ship but left the POWs in its holds. Many were wounded during the attack. The planes returned and continued the attack. Lt. Keating’s date of death indicates he died in the attack. He is listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea on the Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery, Manila, Philippines. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
