Major Hadra was born in Berlin, Germany. He died in war service at Ft. Shaftner, San Antonio, Texas, from acute cardiac dilation. Funeral services with military honors were held at San Antonio, Texas, where he had been a physician before the war. After leaving Illinois he graduated in medicine from the University of Texas. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star Citation for his participation in the Rescue of Lt. J.C. Gillmore, USN, on December 18, 1899, while surgeon of the 33rd Regiment US Volunteer Infantry on duty in the Philippines.
