Lt. Dearing enlisted on June 5, 1942, at Peoria, Illinois. He attended Officers Candidate School and earned Second Lieutenant. He was killed in action as his unit was attempting to take Le Village Des Saints, France. His unit came under heavy enemy mortar fire. Lt. Dearing is buried at Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, Illinois.
