Major Griffin served with the 324th Bomber Squadron, 91st Bomber Group, Heavy, as a squadron operations officer. He was killed when his P-47 he was soloing crashed near his English base. Major Griffin is buried at the Cambridge American Cemetery, Plot E Row 0 Grave 99, Cambridge, England. A Flying Fortress pilot, Major Griffin was awarded for missions completed over Germany with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, and Purple Heart.
