Sgt. Kratz first entered the service in June, 1941, but was released from the Army in November, 1941, because he was over 28 years of age. He was recalled to duty in February, 1942. He served with the 33rd Armored Regiment, 3rd Armored Division. He was killed in action in Belgium. Sgt. Kratz is buried at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Henri-Chapelle, Belgium, Plot H Row 7 Grave 44. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
