Lt. Donovan served with the 4th Marine Division and died at the Battle of Saipan. He is listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea on the Tablets of the Missing at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
