John Edward Burroughs

Sgt. Major Burroughs first entered the Army after attending college and later joined the Marines. He earned varsity track and field records in shot put and hammer throw during the 1910-1911 season on campus. He died of influenza at Quantico, Virginia, during a global influenza epidemic. He is buried at Edwardsville, Illinois.
